Volcanoes, Mountains & Rain Forest

The orographic system of the country has three major bodies: the Cordillera de Talamanca with 320 km in length, the Central Volcanic Cordillera with 76 km and the Volcanic Cordillera de Guanacaste  with 112 km in total length. In fact the mother is Talamanca mountain range, which would be the northerly extension of the Andes, and in the south end of which stand as an haughty challenge the highest peak of the country: the Great Chirripó with 3819 meters altitude.

Regarding the geographical location of Costa Rica, the country  is located in the so-called ring of fire pacific, which comprises 75% of volcanoes in the world. Costa Rica counts 112 volcanoes of which 10 have a certain activity. The most visited are the Poás, with one of the largest craters in the Latin America, Irazú, the Ricon de la Vieja and the most active Volcano Arenal.
