Itinerary

Day 1: San José - Cerro Chirripo
Today we will drive on the Pan-American Highway heading south towards the Cerro de la Muerte and the Chirripó moorland. We challenge you to find the Resplendent Quetzal and other cloud forest wildlife while we arrive at the Hotel Pelicano in San Gerardo de Rivas. In the afternoon and evening you can enjoy the beautiful views or also hike in the trails or enjoy the pool. At approximately 7:30 pm we will have dinner in the Restaurant while we chat with the guide about your tour. (B) (D)

Day 2: The Summit
Breakfast and snack to go is in the Restaurant at 4:30 am. The transportation to the trail head starts at 5:00 am. Lunch on this day will be served once you check-in your room at the shelter in Base Crestones. Today you hike in three stages as you ascend the mountain; the uphill trail is steep and can take up to 12 hours for slow trekkers. Healthy, skilled hikers can do it in 6 to 7 hours. Look forward to see colorful toucans, trogons, monkeys, and more as you pass through dwarf cloud forests draped in “Old Man’s Beard” mosses. Overnight: Crestones Base at National Park. (B) (L) (D)

Day 3: Back to San Gerardo de Rivas
Arise early to begin trekking to the summit of Mount Chirripó before the fog rolls in. Along the way you will pass by numerous lakes what defines why the Talamanca Indians called this area Chirripó -Place of Enchanted Waters- On a clear day, the view to the Pacific and the Atlantic is spectacular. It takes about 2 hours to ascent before descending to Valle de Los Conejos (Rabbit Valley). Hike to Terbi and back to Los Crestones to reach San Gerardo early in the afternoon. Total distance: 24.5 km- 9 to 12 hours. Overnight El Pelicano (B) (L)

Day 4: Transfer to San José
This morning, after breakfast, you will be taking a shuttle service to return to the Central Valley … or continue the journey to another destination. (B)
