Itinerary

 

Day 1 San José
Arrival to San José. Welcome at the airport by driver and transfer to your hotel in downtown.

Day 2 • San Jose - Tortuguero 3h30 road + 1h30 boat
Leaving early on morning to the road for the Caribbean coast. Guapiles stop for breakfast and following the road by the middle of banana plantations, boarding a large motorized canoe to go up the main channel to Tortuguero National Park. The park is located along the northeast coast of Costa Rica in the thinnest and most humid region of the country; it is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a narrow strip of sable. Its isolation protects it from the ravages of civilization. Along the peaceful canals, natural or excavated by man, with calm waters and fringed by forest, often seen in monkeys, sloths, iguanas, caimans, turtles and colorful tropical birds. Tortuguero beaches are the most important site in the area Western Caribbean for the nesting green turtles (July-October). It is therefore not surprising that "Tortuguero" is a derivative of the Spanish name designating the turtles. Lodging and lunch at hotel and visit the village and the Museum of the Turtle.

Day 3 • Tortuguero National Park
A morning walks with your naturalist guide who will share his/her love and "encyclopedic" knowledge of the exceptional flora and fauna of Tortuguero. Return to hotel for breakfast and then go to discover the jungle in this splendid Park by specially designed trails. Lunch at the hotel and then continue discovery the National Park by boat worthy of the Amazon. Back at the hotel, you can use the pool and jacuzzi.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
 
Day 4
Tortuguero-Sarapiquí
1h30 road trip + 1h30 boat
Taking down the Canals up to get into the hearth of banana plantations. Lunch in Guápiles and then your 4x4 will be wating for you. Keep going to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí. Check in at the lodge.
Tip: Visit the Neo-Tropical Museum (the biggest of this kind in Central America), the pre-Columbian Tumbes and the botanic garden. Night at the lodge.
 
Day 5: Sarapiquí / Arenal Volcano National Park
After breakfast you will departure to the plains of San Carlos, to continue to the town of La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano. Check in at the hotel.
Tip:
1.    Before you get to Arenal you can visit the wonderful waterfalls of La Paz Gardens: This beautiful park is located between 4429 ft and 4921 ft (1,350/1,500 meters) of altitude from where you can see a series of waterfalls, a butterfly farm, a frog, a garden of hummingbirds, toucans, monkeys, etc. Overnight in Lodge
 
Day 6 Breakfast at the hotel Arenal
Suggestions:
1-    Visit the Arenal National Park. It is a cone-shaped volcano, rising from the plains. This is the most active volcano in the country. During the day, often clouds of ash and smoke filled the sky above the crater. At night, when the sky is clear, eruptions of lava and rocks explode in the sky and fall along the cone. Afternoon dedicated to a great tour of the handling bridges in an unforgettable setting in front of the volcano.
2-    Bath in the wonderful hot springs of Tabacon and Baldi or cascades of hot water to 102° F (39° C) downing from the volcano. When the sky is clear, you will attend in this wonderful scene, the spectacle of incandescent lava tracing a path along the slopes of the volcano. Overnight at your hotel.  
 
Day 7 Arenal / Playa Samara
Breakfast at the hotel. Then getting the road along Arenal Lake and through the plains of Guanacaste to the bridge of "La Amistad" (the Friendship) that crosses Tempisque River, to continue to the beautiful beaches of Samara et Carrillo. Overnight at your hotel.
 
Days 8-9
Samara or Carrillo
 
Breakfast and days off to enjoy beaches and activities around, such as diving, snorkeling, surfing, horseback riding, etc...
Overnight at your hotel
 
Day 10 Samara / San Jose
Breakfast and then leave to San José. Rental car drop off and flight back
