Itinerary

 

Day 1
San José
Welcome at the airport and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2
 San José - Tortuguero (2h30 by road + 1h30 by boat)
After early breakfast you will leave to Braulio Carrillo National Park. In middle of banana plantations you will board a big motorized canoe, taking you up to Tortuguero National Park. A little visit to Tortuguero town and Turtle Museum included. Lodging in all inclusive hotel.
 
Day 3
Tortuguero
In your all inclusive hotel you will get a chance to continue discovering the canals of the jungle, where you can find many animals: crocodiles, turtles, sloths, monkeys, iguanas, toucans, macaws.
Day 4
Tortuguero - Guápiles - Sarapiqui (1.30 boat + 2h30 drive)
Navigating back for the canals to the heart of the banana plantations. Lunch at Guápiles and rental car pick up, and then continue to Sarapiquí.
TIP: La Selva Biological Station and its 3460 acres (1400 ha) of reserve and protection project.
 
DAY 5 Sarapiquí - Arenal Volcano (3 hours by road)
Way to the plains of San Carlos.
Tip:
1     The Poás Volcano is one of the actives volcanoes in the country with a height of 8874.67 ft high (2.705 m). At the top of the main crater discover the awesome power of a volcano. Down a muddy pond and bubbling sulfur. The steam escapes it is often confused with the clouds that cover the crater.
2     And do not forget to visit Waterfalls La Paz a magnificent park, located between 4429.13 ft ant 4921.26 ft (1,350/1,500 m) of altitude and from where you can watch a series of waterfalls, a butterfly farm and hummingbird.
3      Bath in the wonderful hot springs of Tabacón and Baldi or cascades of hot water to 102° F (39° C) downing from the volcano
 
 DAY 6 Arenal Volcano - Rincon de la Vieja (4h30 drive)
Departure to the Guanacaste region; the sunniest region of the country with its large grasslands and numerous ranches.
Tip: the banks of Tempisque and Bebedero Rivers, boating tour on the Corobicí River.
 
 
Day 7 Rincon de la Vieja
A day to enjoy activities in the region of Rincon de la Vieja.
Tip: Rincon de la Vieja The National Park, fumaroles, mud baths, hiking, horseback riding, canopy tour, ATV’s, waterfalls ...
 
DAY 8 Rincón de la Vieja - Monteverde (3h30 drive)
Taking the route to the south you will find the town of Santa Elena; located in the mountains overlooking the Nicoya Peninsula.
Tip: Monteverde and Santa Elena reserves, magnificent rainforests and cloud which hopefully will see the famous quetzal.
 
DAY 9 Monteverde
Day to discover reserves, the people and many tours.
Tip: the hanging bridges in the middle of the jungle, canopy tours, the snake, orchid farm and the frog pond.
 
DAY 10 Monteverde / Montezuma
(4h drive + 1h15 crossing by ferry)
Get the route to Puntarenas, and then take the ferry. Lodging at the "Natural" charming town of Montezuma
Tip: Visiting Curú Reserve, a refuge for many thousands of crabs and howler monkeys, locally called "Congo."
 
DAY 11 Montezuma
This is a time for beach staying and discover of beautiful southern of Nicoya Peninsula.
Tip: Cabo Blanco National Park, one of the wildest in Costa Rica and one of the most protected, the waterfalls of Montezuma and beautiful deserted beaches.
 
DAY 12 Montezuma - Manuel Antonio (2h30 drive + 1h30 Ferry)
Route across the Pacific through the palm plantations to Quepos.
Tip: Carara Biological Reserve, with its varied ecosystems and cornice; Tárcoles boat tour in search of crocodiles.
 
Day 13 Manuel Antonio
Stay in Manuel Antonio to enjoy the beaches and the lively atmosphere of the many bars and restaurants.
Tip: Manuel Antonio National Park with its splendid beaches and forest full of squirrel monkeys, iguanas and coatis.
Tips: Find Damas Island Mangrove tour or rafting on the Savegre River.
 
Day 14 Manuel Antonio - San José (3h30 drive)
Return to the Central Valley and the capital of Costa Rica.
Drop off the rent-a-car at the airport or leave it in the hotel if you spend your last night in San Jose.
