Located along the northeastern coast of Costa Rica, the thinnest area and the wettest in the country, Tortuguero National Park is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a narrow strip of sand. Its isolation has protected it from all the evils of civilization.
Tortuguero is one of Costa Rica's most popular National Parks. It is a wilderness area with great biological variety. The wildlife is rich and diverse, with eleven different defined habitats. These include high rainforest, littoral woodland, slope forest, swamp forest, holillo forest, herbaceous swamp and herbaceous lagoon. Mammals, birds and fish are numerous.
Along these peaceful canals, natural or excavated by man, with calm waters and fringed by forest, we often see monkeys, sloths, iguanas, caimans, turtles and colorful tropical birds. The beaches of Tortuguero are the most important site in the western Caribbean for the nesting of the green turtles (July-October ). It is therefore not surprising that “Tortuguero“ is a derivative of the spanish name designating the turtles.
 

 

Itinerary

Day 1 San Jose - Tortuguero (2h30 by road + 1h30 by boat)
Departure early in the morning Between 6:00 am to 7:00 am from San Jose on bus -through Braulio Carrillo National Park . On the way , stop for breakfast. Boarding in the middle of banana plantations were large motorized materials canoe to go up the canal Hand That Runs Along the coast to Tortuguero National Park . Installation at the lodge. Lunch Then visit the Turtle Museum of the CCC (Caribbean Conservation Corporation) and the colorful Tortuguero town.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2 Tortuguero
Breakfast at the lodge.
Depending on the lodge, morning tour (included or optional ) at daybreak to the channels in the jungle where You Can Meet Many animals Including crocodiles , turtles , sloths , monkeys , iguanas , toucans , parrots and birds of all species . Return to the lodge for breakfast. Then discovery of walking trails through the jungle. Lunch at the lodge and further exploration of this national park worthy of the Amazon by boat (included or optional). Back at the lodge where you will enjoy the pool or go for a walk to the beach.
Dinner at the lodge and free night.

Day 3 Tortuguero - San Jose (or continuation) (1h30 by boat + 2h30 by road)
Breakfast at the lodge .
Down the channels to the heart of banana plantations. Lunch en route.
(Possibility of Deliver your rental for free because at the restaurant for lunch mid -way Between Guapiles Siquirres in order to continue the South Caribbean) Return late afternoon in San Jose.

• The stay in the jungle can also be done in 2 days / 1 night. In this case , we recommend you take a domestic flight ( 35 minutes ) between San Jose and Tortuguero or return between San Jose and Tortuguero
