CORCOVADO (National Park)
Covering a large part of the Osa Peninsula, Corcovado National Park protects 54.500 ha of land and 2.500 ha of sea. It is considered by many as the jewel of the country. After being deforested until its protection in 1975 and freed from its gold seekers in 1985; it now protects the largest area of tropical rainforest of Costa Rica. It has an extraordinary wealth in flora what has permitted the development of wildlife equally exceptional, usually observable from the well preserved trails. With 140 species of mammals, 367 species of birds, 117 species of reptiles and amphibians, many species of fish and insects, the Corcovado National Park is a heavenly place for lovers of flora and wildlife. It is also a paradise for hikers who can make long trips through the lowlands of the rainforest.
